Weather pleasant in Kashmir, fresh WD likely to hit tomorrow

SRINAGAR: Weather turned pleasant as mercury witnessed further increase in the Kashmir valley, where isolated rain is predicted during the next 24 hours as a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) could hit the region.

Border town of Kargil in Ladakh was coldest at minus 1.3 degree though Leh also recorded drop in the minimum temperature.  After recording above normal temperature, people in the Kashmir valley, including world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and heatlh resort of Pahalgam, woke up to a pleasant weather this morning.

A Met department spokesperson said here this afternoon that there could be isolated rain in the Kashmir valley while the weather will remain dry in Ladakh and Jammu during the next 24 hours.

However, after a dry conditions on April Ist, weather will remain wet during the next three days in the state, he said.

Kargil in the region was the only place which recorded sub zero temperature as minimum temperature  was minus 1.3 degree against yesterdays minus 1.9 degress. However, at Leh it was 3.9 degree against yesterdays 5.9 degree.

He said the sky would be partly and the maximum and minimum temperature would be around 12 degree and 4 degree respectively during the next 24 hours.  Gulmarg, major tourist attraction as the ski slopes remained under several feet of snow.

However, the minimum temperature was still above normal. Against yesterdays 1.8 degree, it was 3.6 degree, about four notches above normal.   At Pahalgam, base camp of annual Amarnath yatra in south Kashmir Himalayas, also witnessed surge in the minimum temperature. Against yesterdays 3.3 degree, it was 4.4 degree, more than two notches above normal, resulting in melting of stones on the upper reaches. (Agencies)
