Kashmir violence: one more youth succumbs, toll reaches 53

SRINAGAR: With the death of one more youth, allegedly beaten by security forces, the death toll in the Kashmir violence since July 9 has reached 53.

Official sources said that a youth Ishfaq Ahmad Dar, who was critically wounded after beaten up by security forces on July 23 at Sopore, died in the S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), this morning.

However, a police spokesperson in a statement here this afternoon said Dar was injured after he fell from a tree. However, massive protests erupted when the news about the death of Ishfaq reached his home town.

Demanding immediate arrest of security forces, the demonstrators alleged that Ishaq was critically wounded when he was hit by security forces with lathis and riffle butts.(Agencies)
