119 villages upgraded as model villages in J&K under PMRP

SRINAGAR: Under the Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme (PMRP), 119 villages in Jammu and Kashmir have been upgraded to Model Villages (MVs), at an estimated cost of Rs 120 lakh per village.
Meanwhile, under Border Area Development Programme (BADP), State Sector and convergence Mode under 13 Financial Commission (FC), MGNREGA, CD and CDF 59 villages have also been taken up in Jammu region.
This information was given by Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Abdul Haq Khan in reply to Un-Starred questions by Sofi Mohammad Yousuf and Vikramaditya Singh in the Legislative Council. The minister said, Under PMRP 58 villages in Jammu division and 61 in Kashmir division have been upgraded to Model Villages.
Further work on one Model Village Badugam in block Tulail, a border area in Bandipora district in north Kashmir is under execution. Mr Haq said, during the year 2015-16 Common Facility Centre (CFC) in Model Village Khiram has been got renovated and is presently available for use against fee.
Meanwhile, the Rural Information Centre at Khiram has been handed over to Education Department alongwith furniture, fixtures and computer system. However, there is no proposal to bring more villages under the PMRP, the minister said in the reply.
In reply to Mr Singh question, the minister said no commitment was made in the budget speech 2015-16 for development of villages by Rural Development Department.
However, the reply said, 117 number of villages have been taken for development as Model Villages in Jammu province under different schemes over the years.
Under PMRP 59 villages were taken up and completed while under BADP out of 15 villages only two were completed while work on remaining 13 was in progress.
Work was also in progress on two villages taken under State Sector, the reply said adding under convergence Mode (13 FC MGNRGA, CD and CDF) work on 42 villages was in progress. (AGENCIES)
