745 FIRs registered against stone pelters in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: J&K police has registered 745 FIRs against the persons for their involvement in stone pelting cases in the State from March Ist, 2014 to May 25, 2016.

Security forces and State police personnel have been directed to use non-lethal weapons while handling law and order situation to avoid any collateral damage, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also holds home portfolio said in reply to a question by Er Sheikh Abdul Rashid in the Legislative Assembly.

The reply said that 745 FIRs have been registered against the persons for their involvement in stone pelting cases in various police stations of the State. The details of FIR were not available as Annexure attached with the answer given to media was missing.

The reply said an amount of Rs 9 lakh has been paid to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 25,000 to injured persons. She said the security forces and State police personnel are regularly briefed about strict adherence to SOPs while dealing with law and order situation.

They have been directed to use non-lethal weapons while dealing with law and order situation to avoid any collateral damage. (AGENCIES)
